Decoding Materials: What Are REDANT Dog Beds Made Of?
Dogs spend most of their lives lying down – up to 80% of their time. A dog bed is therefore not just a home accessory, but an essential part of your dog’s health and well-being. A high-quality bed can protect joints, provide comfort, and withstand everyday use. In today’s article, we take a look at the materials used to make REDANT dog beds, so they meet all the needs of both you and your four-legged companion.
Health, Sustainability, Quality, Comfort and Ethical Production
When developing our dog beds, we follow a few core principles: your dog’s health, long-term durability, easy maintenance, and environmental responsibility. We use premium European materials with a transparent origin (the Netherlands, Italy, Denmark) and produce our beds locally in Slovakia.
From a health perspective, we choose hypoallergenic materials that breathe well and do not retain moisture or odors. For mattresses, we focus on orthopedic properties that support proper body alignment and reduce strain on joints and the spine – something especially appreciated by senior dogs and larger breeds.
From a sustainability point of view, we select durable fabrics that can withstand claws, teeth, and frequent washing. And when a cover eventually wears out or gets damaged? There’s no need to buy a completely new bed. Thanks to our modular system, you only replace the part that actually needs it. This approach is gentle on both the environment and your wallet.

Orthopedic Mattresses and Hollow Fiber Cushions
Hollow Fiber
We fill the side bolsters and cushions with hypoallergenic hollow fiber. It keeps its volume, is lightweight, dries quickly, and creates an environment less friendly to dust mites – making it ideal for both dogs and owners with allergies. Another advantage is easy maintenance and the option to tumble dry, which restores the fiber’s fluffiness.
Orthopedic Mattresses
Proper joint support is crucial for medium and large dogs, active dogs, and seniors. Orthopedic mattresses contain memory foam (viscoelastic foam) that distributes pressure, adapts to the body, and reduces strain on joints and the spine.
Memory foam orthopedic mattresses are included in selected models of our beds, but you can also add one to any model in our Spare Parts section.

Removable Covers with Water-Repellent Layer
We choose cover materials with a strong focus on quality and durability. They are made of 100% polyester (PES) and available in classic, velvet, corduroy, and faux suede leather versions. The high abrasion resistance of the fabrics is combined with a water-repellent polyurethane layer that protects the filling from moisture.
Water-Repellent vs. Waterproof
Our dog beds are water-repellent, not waterproof. The difference is that water-repellent material protects the inner filling from dirt and moisture, while waterproof would mean that water could not pass through even the zippers or seams – even if the entire bed were submerged.

Martindale Rub Test
All our cover fabrics are selected to be abrasion-tested and able to handle claws, everyday use, and machine washing. In the Martindale durability test, they achieve values between 60,000 and 100,000 cycles, which can be considered well above standard.
How does the Martindale test work?
- A fabric sample is stretched into a testing machine.
- A felt pad moves over the fabric under defined pressure.
- One movement = one cycle. The test ends when the first signs of wear appear.
- The higher the number of cycles, the longer the fabric retains its appearance and functionality.
Reference values:
- up to 15,000 cycles = low durability
- 15,000–25,000 cycles = standard household use
- 25,000–40,000 cycles = high durability
- over 50,000 cycles = very high durability (commercial use)
Our dog beds therefore perform reliably even under demanding conditions with very active and playful dogs.
Maintenance, Cleaning and Washing of REDANT Dog Beds
Thanks to the water-repellent covers, minor dirt or moisture can be easily removed by wiping with a damp cloth.
For heavier soiling or refreshing the hollow fiber filling, washing at 30°C is recommended. Our gentle hypoallergenic laundry strips are ideal for this purpose.
Thanks to the modular design, covers and fillings can be washed separately.
Memory foam, on the other hand, should not be machine washed or tumble dried. We recommend cleaning it by hand only, using lukewarm water and a mild detergent.
Washing, spinning, or tumble drying could damage its structure.
More detailed information about care, cleaning, and washing of our dog beds will be available in our next article, coming later this week. We will add the link here as well.
